Somatic Geographies
The body as a living territory
Somatic Research, Instant Composition, Elements of Sensitive Dance®, Axis Syllabus Study Group
Syracuse
>Saturday, the 20th, and Sunday, the 21st
February 2027
11 a.m.–6 p.m.
by Yiskah Jessica and Francesca Ravagnani
The workshop is structured around theory, practice, reflection, and sharing, with the aim of exploring the complexity of the body in a structured and accessible way; it is also suitable for people with little experience.
We will draw inspiration from the concept of an ecosystem as an organizing principle of movement, in which the parts influence one another in a relationship of interdependence. From this perspective, we will explore the body as a living territory, composed of meaningful relationships: elements that communicate, are linked, and are interconnected within a relational system that is constantly readjusting.
An opportunity to develop coordination, alertness, skill, responsiveness, and integrity.
There will be moments dedicated to listening exercises and more dynamic moments. We will explore both solo and in contact.
The Axis Syllabus and elements of Sensibile® dance are at the very foundation of this research.

This workshop is for dancers, actors, artists, and researchers who wish to explore the body within the artistic and performative fields, enriching their somatic vocabulary and movement practice. It is open to everyone— even those with little experience —who loves dance and movement and is interested in exploring the body through knowledge and inquiry, within a safe and non-competitive group setting.
Somatic orient to a multifaceted view of the body, celebrating a dialogue between art, health and life.
>>Yiskah and Francesca have been collaborating for a couple of years, sharing a exploration of living in the present moment through movement and dance. Perceptual quality, the relationship between the intangible and the manifest, and touch characterize their current inquiry.
Yiskah is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher. She is a researcher in the fields of movement and somatic languages. For over twenty-five years, she has guided groups and individuals through artistic, performative, therapeutic, and personal growth journeys. She trained in contemporary and African dance. She has studied and worked in Italy, Europe, and Africa, and has worked in dance and theater companies, on social projects for people with disabilities, and as a street performer. She has been part of the Axis Syllabus community for sixteen years and teaches regularly in study groups. In this area of research, she explores the role that the AS can play in terms of the ethics of movement, both in everyday life and in the art of the body, and in dialogue with his artistic exploration.
She also works in the field of bio-natural disciplines as a biodynamic craniosacral therapist, a biodynamic mindfulness facilitator, a yoga instructor, and a somatic practitioner specializing in women’s integrated health. BIO complete
