The Project
Salotto Somatico is a project of Yiskah Jessica Cestaro, with main offices in Bologna and Milan. It was born in the context of SOMA Mind-Body Research and Practice Center., a program that since 2016 has offered a wide range of somatic and body-mind experiences in the Bologna area, aimed at personal well-being.
Salotto Somatico finalizes each proposal to the body in movement and performative research, networking with artists, researchers and teachers. It is a project driven by the desire to implement a context of involvement and participation, in which to nurture, inform and train the body in multiple directions in order to expand the perceptual boundaries of meaning, relationship, and knowledge.
Somatic Living Room eschews any form of uninhabited relationship and purely conceptual ethics that do not respect physiological need. It does not yield to the concept of training, domestication, commodification and instrumentalization of the body.
The term recalls the literary salon as a place of periodic gathering, where knowledge is disseminated outside the circuits of institutionalized power but becomes somatic because it moves from the intellect to the soma, placing the body at the center of interest.
