The Back
Somatic Research, Instant Composition, Elements of Sensitive Dance®, Axis Syllabus Study Group

A workshop to explore, with curiosity, the scope and role of what lies “behind us”—both in perceptual and physical terms—to observe how this experience might influence the way the body stands, orients itself, interacts, and moves.
What happens to the organization and dynamics of movement when we open ourselves up to perceiving “the back”? How do the quality of tone, contact, and sense of space change?
Through exploration and dance, we will observe how incorporating the space behind us can support our three-dimensional expression of movement, tangibly alter our balance, clarify our direction, our readiness for action, our posture, and our relationship with other bodies.
There will be a mix of moments of stillness and more dynamic moments. We will dance and practice both individually and in partnership. We will incorporate some elements of anatomy for movement and principles of biomechanics.
The Axis Syllabus, the craniosacral system, biodynamic mindfulness, and elements of Sensitive Dance® form the foundation of this research.
The workshop is structured around sessions of theory, practical application, reflection, and discussion, with the aim of exploring the complexity of the body in a focused and accessible way.
This training is for dancers, actors, artists, and researchers who wish to nurture an investigation of the body in art and performance, enriching their somatic vocabulary and movement practice. For all people even with little experience, inclined to encounter the body in terms of knowledge and research, in a safe and non-competitive group field.
Salotto Somatico's programs foster a multifaceted view of the body, celebrating a dialogue between art, health, and life.
Yiskah and Francesca have been collaborating for a couple of years, sharing a exploration of living in the present moment through movement and dance. Perceptual quality, the relationship between the intangible and the manifest, and touch are the hallmarks of their current exploration.
Yiskah is a dancer, researcher, and choreographer specializing in movement and somatic expressions. She is a somatic practitioner in bio-natural disciplines, biodynamic craniosacral therapy, and mindfulness. She has studied and worked in Italy, Europe, and Africa, and has worked with dance and theater companies, on social projects for people with disabilities, and as a street performer. She is currently in the process of obtaining Axis Syllabus certification.
