The body as a symbol
Have you ever wondered if and how you feel, treat, and use your body is being shaped by how you think about it?
The mental, verbal, or graphic representation of the body can be considered a symbolic representation, in other words, an abstraction. In this workshop, we will explore how and when the symbolic representation of the body can favor or hinder health, embodiment, and the clarity with which we express ourselves through movement. We will practically and dynamically explore both the body maps that the AS offers and our personal representation of the body that each participant will conceive during this workshop. Our goal will be to understand better how shareable scientific knowledge and personal imagination can be mutually enlightening and enriching when interlaced.
The AS maps were intended to serve as orientation tools, a dictionary in the midst of the complexity of the moving body: skeletal structure, myofascial system, joint geometry, spatial directions, etc. The AS Notation System, which refers to these maps, was conceived as a pedagogical tool not only in dance. It focuses on the synergic relationships between the single body components and the environment - interoceptive and proprioceptive coordination.
This workshop will articulate moments of movement and dance exploration, choreographic material, drawing, and moments of verbal analysis and sharing.
